Two steps out the sliding door, January, quarter past one,
the plastic chairs are stacked and frozen, nobody's coming out.
Somebody laughs inside about a name I don't know anymore,
and I got one cigarette left and eight hours of road on my coat.
My mother's terrace, same gray boards, same crack along the rail,
I can watch the kitchen window fog from where I'm standing now.
Snow down in my collar, ash in the flowerpot dirt,
and a phone that's full of numbers I keep meaning to erase.
Counting what it cost me, on my fingers, one by one.
Nobody's counting with me. That's alright. That's alright.
Let me freeze out here a minute.
Let me freeze out here a minute.
Nobody's coming for me, and I'm fine.
Saint Antoine Street at two, the plow goes by and shakes the glass,
somebody hung my old coat on the hook I used to use.
I know the gate code, I know which stair complains,
I know exactly how to leave, I never learned a thing about staying.
Six years is a long apology I never got to give.
Nobody's asking for it. That's alright. That's alright.
Let me freeze out here a minute.
Let me freeze out here a minute.
Nobody's coming for me, and I'm fine.
There's an orange cat behind a door on the other side of town,
and he don't want the whole story, he just wants the key to turn.
So I'll finish this one slow.
So I'll finish this one slow.
Let me freeze out here a minute.
Let me freeze out here a minute.
Nobody's coming for me, and I'm fine.
Nobody's coming for me, and I'm fine.
Quarter past one.
Quarter past one.
And I'm fine.
