Coffee’s gone cold by the dashboard light
I'm late again, but that’s just life
laugh lines as deep as the sleepless nights
I patch the world, but I’m not alright
Baby’s crying through the headset tone
I’m healing wounds that aren’t my own
hands that tremble still press on
guess that’s how the healer holds
They all think I’ve got the cure
but I’m just winging it for sure
I keep taping cracks in armor plates
laugh it off and call it fate
if love’s a spell, I cast too late
but still, I try
I can stop the bleeding, help the sick
who'll patch me up, when I run out of tricks?
I fall apart, then take a bow
and call it fine
You caught me staring through the mess
said, “we’re both tired, I’ll confess”
I laughed, “yeah, but look we’re still alright”
you smiled, “we’ll make it through tonight”
the room fell soft, the world stood still
we remembered what we built
You ask, "will this love renew again?"
I think it just might, my friend
She said, “you give till there’s nothing left.”
I said, “guess that’s what dads do best.”
I keep mending the injured, my , my teammates
learning slow that it’s okay
to drop the shield and feel the weight
of being kind
the bandages peel, the bruises show
but that’s how real recovery goes
I’m holding close, but I’m letting go
and it’s alright
I’m not a saint, I’m just a dad
Sweetheart, I'll keep you safe, take my hand
I'm a healer don't you know
There's no limit to how far I'll go
I keep taping cracks in armor plates
learning love won’t fade with age
it’s messy, loud, and worth the strain
most nights, I find
we’re learning to push on through the chill
but that’s the proof we want to feel
the healer heals, the world stands still
and that’s just fine
and that's just fine
and that's just fine
